TITLE:                                  Clerk - Civil/Criminal                                                        
DEPARTMENT:                    Sheriff’s Office   
LOCATION:                          Susquehanna County Courthouse               
REPORTS TO:                     Sheriff / Chief Deputy / Office Manger                         
SUPERVISES:                      N/A        
POSITION STATUS:             Non-Union           
Hours:                                   40 per week


Minimum Requirements:
  • Clean criminal history/fingerprinted  
  • Valid PA driver’s license
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Prior Office Experience Preferred 

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:
  • Ability to interact well with co-workers, elected officials and the public
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional demeanor.
  • Must be able to type with accuracy and utilize an adding machine, computer and have knowledge of computer programs such as Word, Excel, Teleosoft, AOPC, PFAD and CPCMS
  • With the ability to multitask.

Duties and Responsibilities:  
  • Docket all civil/criminal complaints filled in the office.
  • Works closely with deputies for current address and location for service (time sensitive).
  • Responsible for dealing with Attorneys as well as other sheriff’s offices for deputizing for service.
  • Responsible for all aspects of a Protection from Abuse docketing and deputizing to the return of service.
  • Warrants criminal/civil issued out of the Court of Common Pleas: Responsible for accountability and all aspects such as docketing, updating, deputizing, removing warrants from NCIC, CPCMS, DR, and Susquehanna County 911.  
  • Responsible for working with other staff to reconcile cash receipts, balances, daily/monthly and deposits as well as bank accounts.
  • Accept License to carry applications at the counter.
  • Work with local /state police providing details on warrants and faxing appropriately. 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Sheriff.

Within 6 Months of Hire:
  • Have solid working knowledge of the Office.

Physical Requirement:
  • Occasional lifting of boxes

Special Requirements:
  • Conduct (including personal conduct) is held to a very high standard when working for the Sheriff’s office. Your conduct on Facebook, Twitter, e-mail, texting, etc. must not disrespect the Sheriff’s office or the County of Susquehanna. 
  • Working in the field of Law Enforcement can become very stressful and deal with sensitive information which must remain confidential.
  • Should you need to discuss something you heard or have knowledge of, you shall report immediately to the Sheriff.
  • The safety of you and your family is also a concern to the Sheriff. You need to be aware of your surroundings constantly.
