REPORTS TO:                     DEPUTY DIRECTOR, TRAINING AND QA
SUPERVISES:                      NONE
RATE:                                   $16.39/HOUR, 40 HOURS PER WEEK
POSITION STATUS:          UNION ELIGIBLE, FULL-TIME                       
 
 
GENERAL:  The Dispatcher, under the administrative direction of the Deputy Director, Training and QA, will be responsible to fulfill all of the responsibilities of the 911 Telecommunicator/Dispatcher as outlined by the county and all applicable certifying agencies.
 
Minimum Requirements:
 
Education equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade
 
Work Hours Required/Availability
 
  • This position requires a minimum of 40 hours per week.  Additionally, this position requires that the individual be available for call-in 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
​Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • The ability to work in a stressful condition.
  • The ability to follow written procedures accurately. 
  • The ability to work well with staff as well as with the general public and emergency services.
  • Must be able to prioritize work effectively.
  • Knowledge of 911 Call Taking and Dispatching as related to the three (3) primary emergency services (fire, EMS, and police.)
  • Ability to communicate and express communication effectively, both orally and in writing.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
 
 
  • Perform all of the duties as a telecommunicator including call taking and dispatching.
  • Obtain and maintain all required certifications as listed below.
  • Understand and follow all Susquehanna County 911 Communication Center Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs.)
  • Employees will be required to do other duties as assigned.

 
Certifications:
 
  •  The Employee will be required to maintain certification of a Level 1 Telecommunicator:
  •  Pennsylvania Call Taker/Dispatcher
  • APCO PST1 Level One
  • Susquehanna County Call Taker/Dispatcher
  • NCIC CLEAN / JNET Certification
  • Emergency Medical Dispatch including CPR
  • Hazmat R&I, ICS 100, and NIMS 700
  • Additional Certifications as required

 
Special Requirements:
 
  • The incumbent must have passed the Susquehanna County Background Check with no record of criminal convictions.
  • The incumbent must meet and comply with Susquehanna County’s Employment Policies. 
  • The incumbent must have successfully completed the Susquehanna County Telecommunicator Training Program.
  • Part of the position functions involve the handling of confidential data, the disclosure of which is protected by law.

 
Physical Requirements:
 
The incumbent must be able to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position in a normal office environment which may involve long periods of sitting.
